Nazeing’s parish has two churches: All Saints’, standing high on its ridge above the Lee Valley, and St Giles’, at the crossroads in the village. Whether you come for a Sunday service, a wedding, or simply to look round one of the oldest buildings in the area, both are worth knowing — and both are a few minutes from the yard.
All Saints’: nine centuries on the hill
All Saints’ is a Grade I listed church whose story reaches back more than 900 years. Historic England dates the building to the late 12th century, with work in the mid-15th century and a partial restoration in the 19th; the parish traces its roots back to the 11th century.
- Built from the land: flint rubble walls with dressings of clunch, a red-brick west tower and red plain-tile roofs.
- A 15th-century porch still welcomes you at the front door.
- Its bells — five of them — were recast in 1779 by Pack & Chapman of Whitechapel.
- The setting: on an exposed ridge on the east side of the Lea Valley, with views to match.
St Giles’: the village church at the crossroads
St Giles’ was built in 1964 at the crossroads in Nazeing village and was extensively refurbished in 2023. Alongside Sunday worship it’s a much-loved community church and hall — and the hall can be hired for village events.
Sunday services
- First Sunday of the month: 9:15am at All Saints’.
- All other Sundays: 9:15am at St Giles’.

The clergy and parish office
- Priest-in-Charge: the Revd Richard Attew — 01279 315 044.
- Parish office (for weddings, christenings and funerals): nazeingpcc@gmail.com.
Finding them
- All Saints’: Betts Lane, Nazeing EN9 2DB. A step-free rear door, a low step at the porch, a disabled toilet, and car-park space for disabled visitors on request.
- St Giles’: Nazeing Road, Nazeing EN9 2HU. Reached over a wooden footbridge with quite a steep slope — ramped inside, with a disabled toilet.
If you’d like help with access, the parish asks you to email the office in advance.
